Whether your outdoor structure is built with Pressure Treated lumber or not, it will still need stained or sealed. Exposed wood is simply not designed to last outdoors without proper care. The good news is that wood structures that are properly stained/sealed on a regular basis will last a very long time. So, when is it time to stain? The general rule of thumb is after it dries (usually about 3 months) it's ready for staining or sealing. This will ensure it soaks up the stain or sealant. You don't want to wait much longer because if you do, water will soak in causing a cycle of swelling and drying. This is what compromises the structure over time. A simple test is to pour a little water on a flat part of the structure. If it beads up, you should be good for another season. If it soaks in, even a little, it's time for staining/sealing.
An unstained or improperly stained/sealed fence will quickly discolor. So will other wooden structures but we usually see it more quickly with fences. This is due to the UV rays from the sun and the harsh elements of rain, snow and wind. WoodWorx uses professional stains and sealers. UV protection varies by the types of stains and sealers, but we have the right product for your needs and will make a recommendation based on your aesthetic wants and your functional needs.
Our application practices are professional, so we get excellent coverage and absorption. In other words, one of our coats is similar to two of an amateur DIY coat. With that said, we still apply 2 coats on our jobs unless otherwise requested by the homeowner.
